2.Water Insolubility: The product cannot dissolve in water and conventional solvents, maintaining stable performance within humid or aqueous surroundings.

3.Flexible Solubility Properties: It dissolves in organic solvents including hot benzene, toluene and turpentine, supporting wide adaptability for different formula systems.

4.Decomposable into Functional Substances: When reacting with strong acids, it breaks down into stearic acid and calcium salts, laying the foundation for broad application scenarios.

Product Details

Calcium stearate, alternatively named calcium octadecanoate, is a pale white crystalline powder. Its chemical formula is (C₁₇H₃₅COO)₂Ca, with a molecular weight of 607.00. It possesses a melting point of 179–180 °C and will undergo decomposition upon heating. This substance is insoluble in water, cold ethanol and diethyl ether. However, it can dissolve in hot benzene, toluene and turpentine, while being slightly soluble in hot ethanol and diethyl ether. It will decompose into stearic acid and the corresponding calcium salt once reacted with strong acids. Additionally, calcium stearate is hygroscopic and exhibits resistance to lipolytic microorganisms.

Calcium stearate acts as an anti-caking and flow aid for powdered materials, applicable to specific food items including Smarties, and functions as a surface conditioning agent for hard candies such as Sprees. Besides, it can be used as a waterproof agent for textiles, as well as a lubricant for pencils and crayons.

Within the concrete sector, calcium stearate inhibits efflorescence on cement-derived products for concrete masonry units like paving bricks and blocks. Meanwhile, it can serve as a waterproof additive in this field.
