Product Details Sodium Metasilicate Pentahydrate CAS#10213-79-3
Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate, also known as instant water glass, is an inorganic salt product. It is a non-toxic, odorless, pollution-free white powder or crystalline granule. It features easy solubility in water, insolubility in alcohol and acid, and possesses hygroscopic properties. Its aqueous solution presents alkalinity, and it readily absorbs moisture and deliquesces when exposed to air.
This product delivers powerful detergency, emulsification, dispersion, wetting and permeability performance, alongside stable pH buffering capacity. It can neutralize acidic dirt, emulsify grease, and disperse inorganic sediments, while providing anti-corrosion protection for metals. As the most widely applied and representative grade among sodium metasilicate products, its chemical formula is Na2SiO3⋅5H2O.
It retains the general properties of sodium silicate and sodium metasilicate, with outstanding binding capacity for calcium and magnesium ions — its magnesium ion binding capacity exceeds 260 mg MgCO₃/g (test conditions: 35 °C, 20 minutes). It supplies excellent alkaline buffering performance for detergent formulations, protects light metals (such as aluminum and zinc), glass and porcelain from corrosion, and meanwhile achieves dirt suspension, emulsification and auxiliary water softening effects.

It is extensively applied in household laundry detergents, laundry pastes, industrial detergents, food cleaners, metal cleaners, textile treatment and paper deinking. It serves as an essential additive for concentrated detergents, as well as phosphate-free and low-phosphate detergent formulations, and is also used in the ceramic and petroleum industries.
The product appears as white cubic crystals or spherical particles, featuring non-toxic and odorless properties. It dissolves readily in water and tends to absorb moisture and deliquesce under ambient air conditions. It delivers outstanding performance in decontamination, emulsification, dispersion, wetting, penetration and pH buffering. Its concentrated solutions are corrosive to fabrics and human skin.
