It is commonly encountered in the forms CrCuH₂O (molecular weight 133.56) or Cr₂Cu₂O₅ (molecular weight 311.08), while its actual composition may vary depending on hydration or crystalline structure. It appears as a brown to black powder with a density of about 5.400 g/cm³ and a vapor pressure of 0–0.08 Pa at 190–200 °C. It is insoluble in water, dilute acids, and concentrated hydrochloric acid.
