Product Description of Potassium Iodide (CAS No. 7681-11-0)
Potassium iodide is an ionic compound in which iodide ions readily react with silver ions to form a dark yellow silver iodide precipitate. This compound is light-sensitive and can decompose under illumination, making it useful in the production of high-speed photographic films. For this reason, silver nitrate is commonly employed to detect the presence of iodide ions.
Iodine, an essential component of thyroid hormones, plays a vital role in regulating the basal metabolism of livestock and poultry and is involved in nearly all metabolic activities. A deficiency of iodine in animals can lead to thyroid enlargement and hyperplasia, reduced basal metabolic rate, and impaired growth and development. Therefore, iodine supplementation is necessary in feeds for young animals and for livestock and poultry raised in iodine-deficient regions.
Animals with high production demands, such as high-yield dairy cows and laying hens, require increased iodine intake, which must also be supplied through feed. As dietary iodine levels rise, the iodine content in milk and eggs correspondingly increases. Studies indicate that iodine-enriched eggs may help lower cholesterol levels in humans and provide health benefits for individuals with hypertension.

Product Application of Potassium Iodide CAS#7681-11-0
Potassium iodide is an approved food-grade iodine fortifier. In China, relevant regulations stipulate its dosage in infant foods at 0.3–0.6 mg/kg, and in table salt at 30–70 mg/kg. As an essential constituent of thyroid hormones, iodine participates in the overall metabolism of livestock and poultry, and maintains bodily heat balance. It is indispensable for normal growth, reproduction and lactation in animals.
Supplementation with potassium iodide improves growth performance, general health status and production efficiency of livestock and poultry. By contrast, iodine deficiency may trigger metabolic disorders and physiological abnormalities, accompanied by thyroid enlargement, impaired nerve function, faded fur color, reduced digestion and absorption of feed, ultimately causing stunted growth and development.
